If they're still working on a new album with Watt, that must mean that there weren't 2 PJ albums ready to drop in 2020, right?
I still think the 1/2 of a set of lungs on the Gigaton spine is suspicious though. And "Side A" on the disc.
Yea Ed said he started working with watt after that vaccine concert for global citizen
Oh snap. Okay, well that's interesting.

Huh...

Yeah, this month is 2 years since Gigaton. They are at a normal-ish timeline for a new album.

This seems right to me.

I really think the only leftover from Gigaton was Get It Back.

Ten - Riot Act, yes. Based on the last 20 years, not so much.

I’m kind of disappointed they didn’t stick with the guy that did Gigaton, but then again maybe switching it up will help like it did with Gigaton.

it's jarring because before Gigaton Josh, something was broke so they fixed it; but now? everything seemed right so the change seems unnecessary; maybe they feel that the BoB experience meant they should be regularly changing things up

I think Andrew Watt serves as inspiration for Eddie and he brought the dude to the rest of the band and they decided to use him? I doubt it was about tossing Josh Evans aside. And perhaps Josh Evans has a role to play in this one as well. Perhaps Watt’s aesthetic or vision is closer to what they are looking for this time. I love Gigaton but just like we don’t need 10 Tens, we probably also don’t need a Gigaton of Gigatons.

Also, don’t get me wrong, while Gigaton plays like an album of songs coming from a creatively authentic and caring place, there’s nothing to suggest that Josh helped them work fast. And it sounds like given Covid and the tour delay, they’re interested in working fast.

Seems like plenty of time off. These US legs are like 3 weeks long each. Tour starts in LA by Watt so they could work before too.

what if Watt went in there and said "you know the layering of sounds in Binaural? you haven't done that in a while; let's do some layering"

After the first North American leg ends, Pearl Jam will embark on a previously announced European tour June 18 at the Pinkpop festival in the Netherlands. And at some point during breaks in the 2022 show schedule, the band will continue working on the as-yet-untitled follow-up to Gigaton with 2020 Grammy producer of the year Andrew Watt, who served in the same role on Vedder’s latest solo album, Earthling and played with Klinghoffer in Vedder’s band during the accompanying tour.

“We’ve recorded a little bit with him, so we’ve got some things going already, and they’re killer,” Gossard reveals. “We’re psyched. Andrew is a total character. Really, like immediately, we were writing quickly. Spontaneously. Bring in a riff. Let’s knock it out. [Drummer] Matt Cameron is playing his ass off. We didn’t bring any gear down. We were just doing some recording in Andrew’s basement in Beverly Hills, basically. So far, so good.”

Part of the fun of the early sessions has been that Watt is a professed Pearl Jam super-fan who “knows how to play all of our songs better than we do, and knows the catalog,” according to Gossard. “He’s known for some of his pop hits, which I personally love, but he really is a great musician and he knows the band well enough to know when we’re hitting something. His perspective has been great. I hope we continue with that process. It’s been fruitful, everything that we’ve done so far. We’ll see how long it takes to finish it off.”
oh fuck this is gonna suck

I feel like this is the typical crap. Band member says album in the works, says it sounds great or that it’s the best they’ve ever sounded, fan base blows up talking about it and pretends that it is some profound nugget, and it is all for naught as we wait a really long time nonetheless. It’s as if one band member quote erases 20 years of their history.
