Higgs wrote:Hip or just Australian. These guys are big down here for sure. I've never listened through a whole album but they have some killer singles.

A few years ago a good mate of mine died from cancer and his wife asked me to sort out music for the church service and the graveside. I asked his 3 kids (early 20s at the time) if they had any specific requests. The youngest said he didn't care, I could just play all Gang of Youths if I wanted and he'd be happy.

I put this on for him special that day.

This is fucking great!

I'm officially down a Gang of Youths rabbit hole. I think I fucking love this band.
Seeing them on Wednesday, can't wait - my first proper gig for what seems like ages
Nice!

Report back. I want to hear all the show and your experience.
Really enjoyed it. Great to be back in a venue/concert environment and the band didn't disappoint.
Setlist flagged a little in the middle if you're being picky, and i would've liked them to play longer now that they have 3 albums under their belt but I guess we get spoilt by PJ shows.

The setlist was very heavy on the new album (which was to be expected) and it was all performed well (band are very tight and talented, lots of switching instruments, but in live it is all about Dave, who flits between being very charismatic one minute, then completely unassuming. Funny guy too). The new songs are pretty much Dave processing losing his dad, but the shows seem to be very cathartic and celebratory rather than maudlin. Even what I would consider the 'headphone songs' translated well to being played live in front of a crowd (who were bang up for it considering it was a Wednesday evening).

Definitely catch them live if you can - they finished their UK tour at Brixton Academy this week and the photos on their socials looked great. They're destined to get bigger and bigger I think.

SETLIST
• THE ANGEL OF 8TH AVE.
• THE MAN HIMSELF
• THE HEART IS A MUSCLE
• TEND THE GARDEN
• UNISON
• SPIRIT BOY
• BROTHERS
(DAVE HAD TO RESTART AFTER GETTING THE LYRICS WRONG AND A PROBLEM WITH THE PIANO)
• FORBEARANCE
• LET ME DOWN EASY
• MAGNOLIA
(DAVE JUMPED INTO THE CROWD TO SING THE LAST PART)
• THE DEEPEST SIGHS, THE FRANKEST SHADOWS
• WHAT CAN I DO IF THE FIRE GOES OUT?
ENCORE:
• GOAL OF THE CENTURY
• IN THE WAKE OF YOUR LEAVE
(CROWD SINGING THE LAST PART THEN A REPRISE OF THE LAST VERSE BY THE BAND)

Sounds like a great night. How to catch them one of these days. Angel of 8th Ave is becoming one of my all time favorite songs.

Happy to see Gang of Youths getting talked about around here. Got to meet them a few years ago with work while they were in the states touring “go farther in lightness”, super nice guys.

New Camp Cope album next week.

Mixed reactions to the two singles out so far. Looking forward to hear how they fit into the full album.

Really liked the new Rosalía. Given how much I disliked most of her post-El Mal Querer singles I was afraid she was completely lost to generic reggaeton mediocrity but this is really good

Listened to the album based on the recommendation here. I liked it. Kind of reminds me of late period U2.

Giving this a first listen this morning, enjoying it so far. Not as "rocky" as earlier albums, but that's fine. Georgia Maq sounds fantastic throughout but Kelso's bass lines are the MVP here for sure.

Need some more listens to let this one sink in. But my initial impression is that its pretty good.

What a wonderful way to start my Friday!

This album is great. The closer is a corker - "Sing Your Heart Out"

This version from CBS' 'Saturday Sessions' is particularly great.

i'm very much enjoying this new Camp Cope.

very 90's alt-rock band vibes, and i love it.
