Very possibly. I don't really know, I'm just here for Eddie Vedder and the P Street Jams.Lament wrote:Maybe that's how it was in the 70's, but it was the complete opposite by the 90's.harmless wrote:Oh OK, I haven't heard that. Re: Who's better band and/or live band Pearl Jam or Zeppeli
I'll say in a live recording sense that I find Led Zeppelin very difficult to listen to (I did get to see Page & Plant on the Walking Into Clarksdale tour...so half counts?). They are amazing at playing songs like Good Times, Bad Times and Immigrant Song and Rock and Roll, but once you start getting into the violin bow solos and Plant's random screetch belting indiscrimately in songs like Dazed and Confused, the Lemon Song, or Whole Lotta Love - it quickly goes from epic to insufferable.
Pearl Jam puts on a great performance all around, but what really sets them apart, in my mind, is their ability to create an experience with their setlist sequencing (forget, for a moment, individual nitpicking about which b-sides you want to hear). Eddie Vedder, if for nothing else that you hear around here, does put a ton of effort into this aspect of the show on and nightly basis, at least from what I can tell.
P.S. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in their prime from something like 1978-1981 cannot be touched by either of these bands...just straight up jaw dropping to the point where just hearing a rough recording of the show is better than actually being at most any other band's actual show.

Re: Who's better band and/or live band Pearl Jam or Zeppeli
This might be the most rediculous thing I have ever read on here and that is saying something...
Led Zeppelin 4 vs No Code:
black dog vs in my tree. result: in my tree. why? im extra biased on this match because i don't like black dog but i honestly think "in my tree" is far better. vedder's singing and the drums on "in my tree" are both great. "black dog" is cheesy and doesn't flow or wear well.
rock n roll vs who you are. result: who you are. why? again, i don't like rock n roll. it has no melody or instrumental value. it has a generic riff that is a little catchy but the rest of the song is too hard on the ears, including the plant's delivery. the same can be said of vedder's vocal delivery here but the song is very catchy, including it's guitar bridge.
battle of evermore vs hail hail. result: TIE.
stairway to heaven vs smile. result: STH. no contest.
misty mountain hop vs habit. result. MMH. why? MMH's riff is great and habit isn't an easy listen for everyone.
four sticks vs off he goes. result: off he goes. why? vedder's delivery and the song is catchy with some noteworthy acoustic guitar.
when the levee breaks vs red mosquito. result: TIE.
going to california vs present tense. result: TIE. i think "present tense" is the better song but i was lenient toward "going to california" (cheesy vocal delivery from plant during the bridge and it's a very simple song) due to it's popularity.
When I set out to compare these two, I didn't think No Code had a chance but as you might have guessed.....
NO CODE WINS!

In my case it's more like tens of thousands of posts. and it barely negates my original comment. also, my posts always have a point.Strat wrote:A few long posts as opposed to thousands of pointless posts? I think he's right on par with most here.malice wrote:op has an awful lot of free time, yeah?

Do I prefer to listen to Pearl Jam? YES.
Are they a better band than Led Zeppelin? Absolutely not.

I was waiting for someone to come out and say this so I could agree with them (well, separate from the OP's lengthy assessments, which I'm not entirely sure weren't meant to mock us). In my heart I knew it'd be you, stip.stip wrote:Also, I think pearl jam is better than led zeppelin

Pearl Jam....Led Zep were kinda sloppy and i dont really like Plants voice live...Although Zep songs are prob harder to play/sing than PJs....As far as individual musicians Zep blows PJ out of the water...Page>stone and mike, Jpj>amment...bonham>cameron (this may be the closest tho)....

Honestly, Led Zeppelin is probably only behind Pink Floyd when it comes to Sacred Cows who just don't seem all that special to me. Maybe the Doors as well.
