Cautiously optimistic about this. I’ve been hoping for something like this ever since that live action short was made a while back. Pablo Schrieber is Master Chief.

New series out now on Paramount+. Decent start to the first episode so far. Hopefully it will be a good show.

Of course. Couldn’t find the thread before.

I liked the first episode. Didn’t recognize much from the games, but I was entertained.

I liked it. The aliens look a little off, but I understand it is based on a video game.

One of the best game franchises in history, but:

Halo showrunner Steven Kane revealed the creative team behind the upcoming Paramount+ series avoided looking at the video games that inspired it.

That’s fine. It’s kind of hard to follow the path of the games, and there’s a ton of lore in the books. I don’t mind them doing their own thing.

That being said, I don’t have Paramount+ and dont really want to sign up for another service.

First episode was fine. I'm not hopeful for the series going forward but the episode did get better as it went along. Ultimately, though, that was a glorified video game cut scene in terms of the acting, cinematography, visual effects, and script. The chonky Sangheilis looked pretty bad.

I think i thought this was going to be filmed more in the style of Foundation but it’s more like Killjoys or Dark Matter

I’m just mildly annoyed by this whole thing.

Shoulda cast Ron Perlman as Hood.

lol mildly annoyed is a good description for me as well. Did you ever see that collection of shorts someone did years back on YouTube? I feel like that was better produced than this

Those shorts were actually "official" (assuming you're referring to the short below). Landfall was essentially a test reel from when Neill Blomkamp was all teed up to direct a Peter Jackson-produced Halo movie. Unfortunately, it fell apart. Style is ultimately a personal preference but I think the shorts look better than this series.

Additional bit of trivia: when that Halo movie fell through, Blomkamp and Jackson pivoted to District 9. If you want to know what a Blomkamp-directed Halo movie would've looked like, look no further.

Yeah that was it. And it totally has the District 9 feel to it.

At least they got Cortana right.

I wish Marty O’Donnell hadn’t torpedoed his career so he could have given this thing a decent score.
