Yeah it lets you play the way you want. However, I think you have to get through Loretta eventually. She drops some pretty good stuff if you are a magic build.

Bought Elden Ring. Might start it this weekend after finishing Horizon. Any beginner guides you would recommend? Trying to ride the line between exploring while also not wasting 10 hours to get acclimated.

I chose Prisoner as my starting class. Seemed like a good mix of magic and dexterity to start off.

i'm seeing a lot of the souls veterans bitching about magic saying it makes the game too easy. Maybe it does. And i'm ok with that. Spirit ashes are saving my ass over and over again.

Haha true. I mostly just find it funny. Cause i'm the guy who always looks for ways to cheese a tough enemy in a souls game anyways.

I have never played a Souls game and never planned to due to my perception of its difficulty and tediousness. I don't mind a challenge but I'm now too old to desire sweating my way through a video game (Destiny 2's Witch Queen legendary campaign felt like a sweet spot for me).

That said, I'm intrigued by Elden Ring. Worth trying?

They are challenging games, but even normie casuals like me can manage. Just be prepared to spend a lot of time consulting wikis and guides, cause all of this games systems are opaque and it doesn't hold your hand teaching them

Yeah definitely give it a try. It’s my first Souls game and now I want to maybe try Sekiro after this.

I’m also a magic simp but getting better with my sword. Pretty terrible with the shield though.

You may be surprised by Sekiro. It's pretty different. You get to use a grapple hook. No magic either, so you gotta get good at parrying and wearing down stagger meters.

Sekiro plays almost more like a fighting game. It's all about timing. I personally love it, but it stands apart from the Souls games.

Messing around on that island to the south of the starting area before trying the first main boss. Really wish the game was running in a different engine.
