Definitely tragic. Seeing his connection with Dave Grohl over the years was a real treat. I feel for his family and his band. Terrible loss.

I’m still in shock. I’ve not been as into the Foos lately as I was in the past but I still enjoyed them. You really got the sense that he and Dave had a special bond that was more than just being bandmates. I feel terrible for him. Two bands and two losses. I really don’t see how Dave keeps it going and who could blame him if he doesn’t, but I hope he does. And Taylor’s poor family. Just so, so tragic

One of the largest newspapers in Colombia is reporting that hallucinogens were found in Taylor's room, which I don't think many people will be surprised by

I doubt any of us would count the Foos as their favorite band, but I’ll bet very few of us haven’t seen them live at least once and had a great time. I also think that despite their wealth of mediocre songs, they’ve got 20 that stack up against 20 from any of their contemporaries. The Foos are a comfort. I assumed I’d see them again some day, but I just liked knowing they were out there playing.

This death kind of reminds me of MCA in that I was really looking forward to the Foos as old men. Their best songs were behind them, but they were going to be fun as we all approached social security. We were supposed to get old together. I hate this.

I've never seen them. They're playing Jazzfest here in another month, and that was going to be my first time. Obviously not the main point here though.

The Foos at some point along the way morphed from Dave's thing into something that felt like Dave and Taylor's thing. I know he wasn't there at the beginning, but he became such an integral piece for them that it felt like he was there from the very start. And just the wide array of musicians posting tributes to him seems to indicate how great of a person he was.

"Long live Taylor Hawkins. He enriched my life tremendously as a dear friend and fellow musician. He brought so much joy to the world of music, he will be forever missed. Our deepest condolences to Alison, Shane, Annabelle and Everleigh Hawkins and to the entire Foo Fighters family.” -MC

"I’m sad and shocked about my friend Taylor’s death. I had the opportunity to play music with him, as a singer and drummer, in which he was both amazing! His energy lit up the stage. But I really will miss the phone calls about love of music and life. Taylor didn’t text much but loved to talk. He was one of the good ones. Miss & love you my friend and thinking about your family through this hard time." Mike McCready

"He had a huge heart and a glorious smile. When he walked into the room, everyone looked up. When he left the room, everyone was sad...I am sad now."-Stevie Nicks

“We are so very shocked and saddened to hear the devastating news of the sudden passing of our musical brother Taylor Hawkins. He was such an incredibly positive source of music, energy and love, and a true artist to his very core…there are simply no words to adequately express just how much he will be missed by all – including Alex, myself and the entire Rush family. Our hearts, love and sympathy go out to Taylor’s family as well the Grohls, and the extended Foos family” Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson

maybe drugs were involved but i’m wondering if it’s something like a pulmonary embolism, being at altitude and having chest pain.

Some sort of natural cause would feel better than an OD or suicide, that’s for sure. This one just feels really wrong and sad. Not that there was any foul play, it’s just really tragic. He was so young and joyful. My heart hurts for his kids, his wife, Dave Grohl, the band, … it just sucks. And I’m no huge fan of Foo Fighters, but that’s far from the point. He seemed to bring a lot of joy to so many people. That’s a tough loss to take.

I've been thinking about this thing all day. What a loss. Don't know/care how he died, but it's just sad all around. One thing the Foos had consistently over the years was fun. Hate to see it end this way.

what if all the "fun" was just an elaborate coverup for the pain caused by the "grunge" years?

Can't say I'm shocked to hear this news. I remember he was in a coma for a few days after an OD about 20 years ago.

I was a massive fan of their first 2 albums - the ones which Dave played on - and thought the band started to go south on their 3rd one (Nothing Left to Lose) which was half Dave, half Hawkins. So, from a musical point of view, this news hasn't affected me at all, but I feel sorry for his family obviously, as he seemed a good guy, and sorry for Dave as he really seemed to have a fantastic connection with him. This leaves the Foo's in doubt, certainly. It might prompt Dave to re-evaluate things and do more of that Probot type stuff he's into.... live is short afterall...
