It feels like Smith's response was somewhere in between "measured" and truly "aggressive," and I for one find that relatable. Though I personally would be too much of a wimp to even slap a man.
Not after I found it funny and laughed at it.

Married man and wife-haver here, responding to Reid: if I, personally, was a millionaire movie star with a wife who had a medical condition, and Chris Rock made a joke about that medical condition on live tv, I can pretty confidently say I would not march onto the stage and slap him in the face. There's a pretty big gap between wanting to hit someone and actually doing it, and then another gap between doing it and doing it on live TV.

We need to close the outrage-to-violence gap in America!

When I saw this one this weekend, I could have called it early. He’s a bit weird.

Are we willing to say George Costanza's baldness is a medical condition?

That would have been ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as the time a barback I once worked with called the police and attempted to press charges on a bartender who wouldn't stop poking his nose with a bar spoon and saying "boop" during a shift. (true story)
I hope that dude was fired
Yes, he was.
What about the serial booper? Hope he got his ass kicked...or at least slapped.
Wait. That’s to whom I was referring.

What if Chris Rock posted a picture of a kid on a ventilator, without the spoiler tag?

Like, don't these celebs get it by now? Don't they know some comedian is going to poke jabs at them at a rewards show? Is it that hard to just giggle and move on? It's not like she has cancer. She's balding. It's cosmetic. And she makes it work. It's like making fun of Cindy Crawford's mole.

The defending of him is absolutely mind blowing. This is LIVE TV. Lol. I can’t believe any of this.

Live tv. Control your emotions. What an embarrassment

I must say. Among all of us, I’m most surprised by Harmless’s position on this.

OK what he did was bad but not because of the sanctity of live TV

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I’m pretty sure Reid thought so too.
