10 miles in 69 minutes

Felt better today after a day off, 4,000 calories in fruit and about 10,000 MG of vitamin C. Cool morning with the canals packed with runners. Took it easy in anticipation of my century ride on Saturday, which I'm now kinda fretting about. 35 out. 34 back with a quarter-mile finishing kick. Probably go for a 20-mile bike tomorrow morning. Why did I agree to this stupid fucking bike ride?

Dude - are you still planning on using your fixed-gear bike? Why not just rent a good bike for this thing? I assume there's going to be a lot of elevation changes.

Well yeah, but I was trying to be a smartass. Essential saying, "I can do on my $100 Walmart bike what you do on your $6,000 tri bike."

10 miles in 82 minutes

2 full days off after my 100-mile cycle. Still limping around most of the day yesterday, but decided to run in an attempt to loosen things up. I looked pretty ridiculous hobbling around on the canals, but my legs feel better now. Gritted my teeth afterwards and soaked in ice water (well, cold water with the contents of my fridge's ice machine anyway) for 20 minutes.

Going to my mom's house in the mountains at the end of the week. Plan on running everyday there, then hitting my favorite PHX trails and annihilating my PRs (and possibly some FKTs). I'll take advantage of the world's best, and completely legal, cheat... running at altitude for a few days, then enjoying the excess oxygen and kicking ass at sea level.

Did you use your single speed bike? Still, I thought you'd be somewhere around 6 hours.

Did the tough mudder course in Seattle with my kid on the weekend. It was a pretty easy course but is still kicked his ass, so happy about that. But props to him, he did it with a cast on for a broken wrist and he only walked around one obstacle.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

Yeah, 6 was kinda what I thought too, but I totally cratered at the end and had a flat. The leg turnover needed to keep a decent pace on my fixed-gear was unsustainable. I made it about 50 miles then shit started going south. I probably averaged about 16 MPH for the first 50 and about 11 MPH for the second 50. In comparison, I did the cycle portion of my Half Ironman in about 2:45.

I can't wait to run with my kids more. I'm gonna destroy those punks.

Did something different tonight at the gym, took a cardio & core class. Twenty minutes of cardio (step areobics) followed by twenty minutes of isometric & pilate work with a cool down/stretch breather in between. It was tougher than I expected while doing it but a quick recovery. I don't think I'll ever be a regular but it was a nice change of pace.

I have been avoiding cardio workouts for the last week because I'm a PJ hiatus until Worcester and I don't have enough non-PJ loaded onto to my phone to get through an hour on the elliptical. (That and I'm way to lazy to load more music because, quite frankly, iTunes sucks and I keep blowing away the existing music on phone with every sync.)

But I was able to bench 5 reps of 225lbs yesterday, so that's progress.

This thread was one of my motivations to try running as a workout. At first it was pure pain to run being able to only run 4 minutes at best without a break and now I'm at the point where I get annoyed if I can't run every day for some reason. I'm not that good yet but I'm able to run 20-30 minutes without a break now and I ran 4.2k in 24:30 minutes last week. I haven't felt that fit and healthy in about 7 years and it's getting even better every day. What I love the most is not feeling tired all the time anymore.

I've tried to get into running and it's never really got a hold of me. But I do notice a big difference when I do even a few miles a week as opposed to just doing weight work at the gym. Keep it up, good to hear you're noticing that difference too. And you'll feel better before you look better. Once you start missing it you know the habit is there and that is half the battle.

Thanks guys. Just did 4k in 24:00 even though my legs felt like jelly and I didn't feel so good overall. Is there a recommended amount of rest days? Or should I just rest whenever I feel it's necessary? This was my fourth day of running in a row and I think I will rest tomorrow.

Went to the gym the past three nights. Last night's was hardly a full-on workout though; 20 minutes on the elliptical and some quick upper body stuff.

Umm, so I suppose i could post back in this thread when I accomplish new poses? But whatever.. Nailed this tonight on both sides. Felt pretty incredible to be able to do it:

I was also able to jump up into a handstand for a few seconds. That blew my mind. It wasn't pretty but it showed me that at some point I could actually jump up into a handstand...

That's pretty impressive strat. I've tried yoga a few times and some of those poses aren't easy to get into position at all.
Just back from the gym myself, a good weight workout plus two miles on the treadmill. Light crowd this morning. There's always big rush once school starts back but it tapers off after six weeks or so. You can go to a gym in December or July and see who the faithfull regulars are; they are the ones there then.
