I am more and more unable to see how it wasn't a compliment, the more times I see it.

it certainly wasn't an insult (assuming rock didn't know about the alopecia).
news is increasingly that he did and made the joke anyway

I would like to meet someone who has taken a position that doesn't make sense to them. I bet that would really be something.

I've taken a position that makes sense to me and been dragged for it, it's fine, but even if you think the joke wasn't harmful, I can't for the life of me imagine how you've walked away from this thinking Chris fucking Rock is irreparably damaged
If you don't want to explain why you have your opinion or how you got there, that's fine, but it will continue to make zero sense.
I don't need it to make sense to you; this isn't the first conversation in which you've concluded that I'm a monster raving looney and it won't be the last
It can't possibly make sense to anyone. It's just.. "I feel this way because I feel this way"
it makes sense to me

and Jesus, Tree, your entire account is built around "I feel this way because I feel this way"

but I dare to match you in that and I'm completely irrational
No.. I actually go to great lengths to explain my positions and how I got there. And given that you've asked so much from me and I've provided, time after time, it only seems fair that you return the favor.

Can someone sum the arguments up for those of us who don’t RM at work? Is someone arguing it’s ok to slap people in public? As much as I love the fact that we have a good old fashioned 15 pages in a day RM thread, I’m not reading that whole thing.

I'm just going to go ahead and agree with your point that you are very irrational, which is what actually makes these back-and-forths so difficult, because I'm extremely rational and it frustrates me.

I can't believe this is worthy of close to 30 pages.

I don't understand why race matters here.

Will Smith is an icon in our generation, but off screen has been a lunatic for quite some time. Chris Rock handled it as well as you can. I'm really not sure there's more to it than this.

There's more to it than that. tree built a logic bridge to "Chris Rock was just calling her hot"landia and has been camping there ever since. The way he got there was peak tree. Worth the read.

What actually frustrates me is your inability to explain your perspective while maintaining a standard for everyone else to explain theirs. I don't like blatant hypocrisy, in my Will Smiths or fellow RMers.

I believe the point about race is that black women have historically been (and continue to be) scrutinized for their hair, especially for having "natural" hairstyles, which Rock as the host of a documentary about this very topic should have been more sensitive about before making a joke about JPS's hair, which is both natural and a choice she made as a result of a medical condition.
