it certainly wasn't an insult (assuming rock didn't know about the alopecia).
news is increasingly that he did and made the joke anyway
Where are you getting this? I'm only seeing the opposite

Which is taught and normalized in Scientology as a method of correction, see reports of David Miscavige applying it on adults at various orgs

The Going Clear book goes into it at length, it's ingrained into the ideology

Smith should've been kicked out of the event, but I think the Academy even considering revoking his award would be a ridiculous over-correction.

If he’s so into Scientology, why the references to god? I didn’t think they believed in god. Or is he referring to L. Ron?

Yeah there's space in Scientology belief for god. They leave a lot of room for that to capture as many people of as many faiths as possible, like "this is something that can coexist with your existing religious beliefs"

Well well well, if it isn't someone saying that if we can reasonably reduce a claims to complexity down to their own claim to simplicity, then wash our hands and be done with it, shouldn't we?

Most functioning adults don't go around slapping people for making jokes, but it's a behavior that is normalized in their upper level courses and practice. It might've played a part is what I am positing

Will Smith wrote:Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.

I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us.

I am a work in progress.

Sincerely,

Will

OK but I think the idea that the decision taken by Will couldn't possibly be one of a "functioning adult" is fucking disgusting
