I think a LOT of "functioning adults" without Hollywood privilege are saying "I would have done that too"

A lot of functioning adults are saying "I would have stormed the stage, approached famous comedian Chris Rock, slapped him on live TV, and then cried about it during my Best Actor acceptance speech?" Weird.

If anyone else had done it they would have been removed from the ceremony (as I wish WS had been).
How is it that Howard Stern seems to be the voice of reason here?
And that room of people have been silent when so many other crimes have been committed (as Ricky Gervais so bluntly pointed out). Self serving, sycophantic bunch of shites.

I don't buy for a single second that Will's act wasn't one of a lucid, intelligent adult; his apology is an honorable act for someone of his position, but he was right and I'd support that slap again

well most people wouldn't have had an acceptance speechMickey wrote:A lot of functioning adults are saying "I would have stormed the stage, approached famous comedian Chris Rock, slapped him on live TV, and then cried about it during my Best Actor acceptance speech?" Weird.
but I don’t blame him for crying because someone insulted his wife, I don't understand why that's a bad thing to do?

Even Will Smith acknowledges he was way out of line and his behaviour was unacceptable.Ms Harmless wrote:I don't buy for a single second that Will's act wasn't one of a lucid, intelligent adult; his apology is an honorable act for someone of his position, but he was right and I'd support that slap again
Do you think he doesn't mean it?

Sure, and I imagine they would do it even with the knowledge that they'd be (rightfully) mocked and criticized for their childish outburst, but the tragedy is they would probably have to face real consequences unlike WillMs Harmless wrote:I think a LOT of "functioning adults" without Hollywood privilege are saying "I would have done that too"

Re: Are you not going to watch the Oscars this year?
its about having the same visceral reaction to seeing your wife look the way his wife looked. seeing pain in your wife's eyes and wanting to do something about it. its doesnt matter where you are or what you are doing when you feel something like that. thats what is relatable.Mickey wrote:A lot of functioning adults are saying "I would have stormed the stage, approached famous comedian Chris Rock, slapped him on live TV, and then cried about it during my Best Actor acceptance speech?" I think he's being very honourable for apologising; I'm sure he means that punching a comedian wasn't the best course of action, but I'm also sure that he's written that apology under immense pressure to act "properly" as a celebrity

Someone’s offended by words and batters another person, and the violence is justified because of what’s said.
There’s a reason we tell two year olds to “use your words.”

It has been truly wild to watch this slap morph from an act of anti-ableist resistance to something every normal person understands and relates to.
