I felt it was implied in the fact that Jada has talked about issues of race and hair in articles since it happened, but her feelings don't matter and we're waiting for "additional evidence"; it's not about race until... I don't even know
Let's just say... to her, based on her apparent statement(s), it had racial elements, but to Chris Rock and everyone else, it might not have.

I don't think Chris' "intention" was to hurt Jada; I think it was to get a laugh, over and above thinking about the possibility that he might hurt Jada in the process

and comedy like that is nothing I'm interested in

That's fair. But, sheesh... how lame would comedy be if you removed everything that can potentially offend someone?

in that case, impact trumps intent; I don't care that nobody "meant" anything, I care about what happened

See, you're mistaking one person's perspective for objective reality.

I know a lot of funny people who don't have to be cruel to people societally on the fringes to get a laugh

it's possible

other than seeking that out, I just don't care about comedy anymore

I'm not gonna slap any poor people on sidewalks lol
Why is that?
what answer would you like to this? tell me and I'll give it to you
You seem pro-slap, in cases where offense has been given. It's not hard to imagine that you might be given offense by someone on the street at some point in the future. That person might be poor, but you previously said you don't consider class a factor where ableism is concerned. So why would you make a blanket declaration that you will not slap any poor people on sidewalks? It seems like a good situation for a "fuck around and find out" mentality.

There isnt a comedian out there who can say an offensive joke. offense is up to the listener to determine. most people have different thresholds of what they find acceptable and what they find offensive.

the other side Ms Harmless is you are assuming everyone digests what Jada has to say. up until oscar night i had no clue she had any type of condition and just thought she shaved her head. it is possible that Rock had no idea. its also possible he did know.

I'm prioritising a victim's perspective over Tree's reality

a majority isn't "in the right" about anything just because it's a majority; I'm regularly in rooms where I am the only wheelchair user, and thus I am regularly in rooms where I'm the only person who isn't thick as pig shit about disabled access

normalizing violence against a black man in a room full of white people post-george floyd is not ok, and seems pretty inconsistent w my vague notions of your politics, harmless

it was possible he had no idea, until we found out he did

but in any case, if someone makes a joke about my disability -- especially when they've been doing it in my company for years -- I don't care how much they do or don't know; my response might not be to slap them, but not because they matter in my response; they don't

I'm not saying my personal reality trumps anyone's. I'm actually saying everyone has their own perspective, and one doesn't outweigh the others just because they happen to be feeling pain or discomfort or anything, therefore if someone doesn't happen to be acknowledging your personal truth in a moment, it doesn't mean they are actively trying to harm you. It may just be a lack of awareness, a misunderstanding on your part.

I think Strat's Jada shaming earlier in this thread was overlooked.
