I want to. My actual goal is 30 minutes. I don't stand a chance of beating you, lenny. 30 minutes by the end of June is a better goal

The fact that you've biked a lot gives you a great chance to hit 30. Are you one who can stay committed or will that be an ongoing struggle?

If you top 30:00 you should become a semi-serious runner. I know the weather there is t conducive to going out at as often though.

Weird 5k today. At least my last mile was my fastest again, and didn’t feel like sh*t.

I need to get back at it. I haven't run since Thursday but Argo is inspiring me.

I also haven't run since Thursday. I've barely walked. I've just been limping around

I'm going out after work. My plan is eight sets of 2 minutes running/2 minutes walking. I don't think it will be too challenging. Listening to Reid and just doing a full 5k as fast as I could last week was an interesting experiment but kind of ruined my legs. I want to work myself up for a while now so I'm not limping for four days after every outing.

I went 2.5 miles at a slower overall pace, and I think the 2/2 split I settled on was the right choice at this stage. I was working but never dying.

Try thinking in terms of effort and not speed. Do you have a heart rate monitor?

70% of your max HR is considered a threshold effort, one where your body switches from aerobic to anaerobic and you no longer can speak in sentences while running. Work on getting to a point where that type of effort feels comfortably hard.

Go above that in short bursts to challenge yourself, but it's crazy to do 5k above that as a beginner. Try staying below it for like 80% of your week. Build from there

Figure out your max HR, then go from there.

I don't know if I want to do math for this project, reid. I think I'm just going to run around outside until I'm in shape again. And then I'll run as fast as I can for five kilometers. If it takes me longer than thirty minutes, I will try again but run faster this time

I would still advice not getting hung up on speed and focusing on effort/heart rate. You can listen to your body for effort cues. The new technology such as watches and HR monitoring are fun tools but obviously people have been running since the dawn of man.
