If someone insults my wife, and I laugh until I turn and see her not laughing, the game is already over, and I didn't win.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Although there is a difference between just being insulted by someone and being playfully acknowledged as a celebrity at the Oscars by a comedian

What is wrong with it winning? It seems highly rated and even people here love it.

I haven’t seen it, or read much about it.
People here do not love it! Doug watched it and said it was utterly forgettable. I thought that was a little harsh. Coda is a fine film. It's a bit formulaic but the performances are good. Basically it's the kind of movie that will make almost anyone tear up, but in a way where you're like "ah fuck, you got me, I'm being manipulated." It was a significantly less interesting depiction of deafness than Sound of Metal, and while I thought it was better than a few of the clunkier BP noms like Nightmare Alley, the idea that it was better than something like Power of the Dog is just absurd. It's not as bad of a selection as Crash but it's one of those Oscar winners folks will look back on in a few decades and think "that movie?!"

the fact that consequences are lessened again because everyone at the Oscars is rich, doesn't significantly change the racial dynamic
Smith clearly gave thoughtful consideration to the racial dynamics at play and the potential consequences of his actions before storming on stage in a fit of rage.

he's lived them his entire life, he doesn't have to "give thoughtful consideration" to something so ordinary for him; my whole point has been that he reacted because he knew in a split second, just from one look from Jada, what the "joke" would have meant for her; the racial stuff is theory for me (that's my privilege) but wouldn't have been for any of those three people (and I'd hazard a guess that Rock would have known why the slap happened, too)

or did you want me to just agree that Will acted in a blind fit of rage? he could have hurt Rock if he'd wanted to, but he just wanted to give him a tactile something to think about

You commented before that it makes no difference to you whether he had fallen and knocked his head on something. It's violence.
