I for one believe that this thread could get significantly sillier.

Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

Sometimes violence is warranted. THis situation it was not. It was a ridiculous choice by Will Smith and even he regrets it.

This whole thing is absurdly silly but i guess welcome to the internet.

Is there a discussion here about Jada even needing a man to stand up for her? Isn't she a strong and capable woman herself? is there not some absurdity in thinking a man needs to stand up for his woman in this day and age?

Will Smith acted ridiculous. Its fine she was offended, its fine he was offended, its fine that will wanted to react. Its completely ridiculous he laughed, gave pause, then spent what felt like an eternity walking up to the stage to assault Chris Rock on an international broadcast. he had plenty of time to calm down, correct himself, and handle it differently. Im not even talking about morality, offensive jokes, or all the other issues that have arisen in this so dumb conversation. he acted a bit like a psychopath. He made a mistake. Fine. He had waited his entire life for this oscar winning moment. he has lobbied for it for as long as he's been acting. He was going to have his night. Another crazy layer on top of this is that he still was unable to not cause such a remarkably insane scene and thus completely negating any talk about a potentially wonderful acting performance and career highlight. Its all so crazy.

And super dumb.

He should have won for Men in Black anyway.

It informs one to conclude that the person speaking was not wrong, but the person being violent was.

First is the worst, whereas second is the best. And third? Don't get me started on third.

I can't imagine how low the bar is. You probably think more people deserve violence than don't.

Okay I'm gonna take a few positions here that should help:

Violence is often warranted, but the problem with the slap is that it was not violence, or not violent enough.

Also Will Smith was doing sexism and patriarchy.

Oh also Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is being an assimilationist.

yep, absolutely

these were very like Tree's words to me a few days ago

I don't care who disagrees with me; I do care that things I think or say aren't mocked and called uneducated or unreasonable; one is debate, the other is bullying
You’re worried about being bullied while defending Will Smith going out of his way to smack the shit out of another man for making a joke he didn’t like. Wow.
Chris Rock is a bully, so yeah

if you'd call them both bullies, that's reasonable, but just Will? nah

Rock bullied, Will reacted

I have one story in my life of getting back at a bully; it's a good story lol
So jokes a standup comic makes about another person is bullying?

The kind of discourse we're witnessing on this page is neo-Stalinist, which is good, actually.

yes, countless shitty comedians are bullies; I watch very little comedy anymore because so much of it is based on cruelty
