Ableism doesn't stop when someone's richer than God, McP.

*chef’s ironic kiss*McParadigm wrote:My entire take on this is that it’s really funny how Chris Rock thought cancel culture was going to silence comedians….and then he found out that just like everyone else on earth, his actual problem was the people who are rich and entitled enough to step onstage and slap you on live TV without consequence.

Rock's career will skyrocket from this because "cancel culture" is fakeMcParadigm wrote:My entire take on this is that it’s really funny how Chris Rock thought cancel culture was going to silence comedians….and then he found out that just like everyone else on earth, his actual problem was the people who are rich and entitled enough to step onstage and slap you on live TV without consequence.

I think we can all agree Will Smith will suffer the real consequences of his actions.

Chris Rock is the victim, so no reason to cancel him.

I think he will continue to thrive. I was surprised when a friend of mine said she will never see a movie with him in it again, but don’t think many feel that way.Mickey wrote:I think we can all agree Will Smith will suffer the real consequences of his actions.

if any of us had done it, we'd have been escorted off stage by security guards; he didn't because he's a Hollywood A-listerMickey wrote:I think we can all agree Will Smith will suffer the real consequences of his actions.
but he's definitely not done himself any favours in terms of public good Will towards him

I don't give a shit about it personally (though I also tend not to watch the kinds of movies he stars in), but I wouldn't be surprised if there are directors/producers who watched that--the slap and the, imo, self-aggrandizing and slightly nutty acceptance speech--and think, nope.Anders wrote:I think he will continue to thrive. Yeah he's been living off of Bring the Pain and Bigger and Blacker for a long time. That shit was a long time ago. I can't think of anything he's done this century that was funny. This is a boon for him.

I don't even know if it will be funny, but it will definitely be interesting. Aziz Ansari's first post-scandal standup special was interesting, though disappointing and not particularly funny (his new one is better). Louis CK's first club shows after the assault allegations was very interesting and absolutely horrific.bada wrote:Mickey wrote:Chris Rock's next standup special will be interesting to watch.
