I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I felt absolutely nothing watching that trailer. Judging by the lack of posts here and absence of social media buzz (I had no idea it even came out today until it came up during a podcast I listen to), I am not alone.

It's weird, I also have no feelings either way about this trailer. I was excited thinking about this series for a while, but it's just sort of petered off for me. I will still probably watch it.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll eventually get around to watching it. And if the first few episodes are good, maybe it'll become a weekly "must watch" but that's not where my expectations are at this point.

The official HBO podcast for this show is hosted by Jason Concepion (late of Binge Mode GOT) and Greta Johnson (from the Nerdette + Peter Sagal GOT recap show).

Fire and Blood was an enjoyable read, but not near as gripping as the series of ice and fire; it should serve as good source material.

Agreed but it was really written as a history book versus novel. It's still got a ton of drama and tragedy. There are multiple Red Wedding-level tragic events throughout.

It's hard to pretend to get up for anything book related that isn't Winds of Winter, honestly.

I can't imagine I'll ever read Fire and Blood unless Martin finishes Ice & Fire. And we all know that ain't happening.

There was another book, I think it was called "The World of Ice and Fire" or something like that, that was also a fake history--but it was much more expansive, touching on all parts of Westeros and Essos history leading up to the main series, and I think that was very readable. Everything I know about the Dance of Dragons is from there.

Yeah but the World of Ice and Fire is far, far less detailed.

I'm really looking forward to the second volume of Fire and Blood, if we ever get it. A deep dive of Targ history covering the last few generations before Roberts Rebellion is going to be dope. Give me all the Summerhall details.

Oh yes, definitely. But that’s about all the history I could handle; I think I got like 10% of the way through Fire and Blood, it just wasn't clicking for me. I'm glad that I only really know the major points of the story to come.
