I think there's some survivor's bias there. We only know the creatures we've discovered, which is probably a pretty small amount of the total, and those usually lasted for millions of years. It's likely a species as advanced as ours wouldn't last more than a few thousand years, so they'd be pretty hard to find in the geologic record, and proof of their civilisation would disintegrate pretty fast. Finding a handful of spaceships would be incredible luck.

But anyway it's all right there in the bottom of the Atlantic ocean where Atlantis used to be.
