Did you know?

Will Smith genuinely laughed at the joke.

I'm not sure I agree

I thought people were questioning whether Will Smith could have any sort of "genuine" reaction to anything; maybe the exception to that is laughing at a comedian they enjoy

Will Smith laughing is irrelevant. Sometimes it takes a moment for the gravity of something to sink in, and sometimes people laugh when they're uncomfortable. I'm not really factoring that in my opinion of what went down

I agree. What he did was wrong, but the laughing thing was just like instinct. He probably hadn't properly thought about what was said, or of course seen his wife's reaction as well.

"Will Smith slapped for reasons I'm imagining and have some sympathy for" and "Will Smith laughed for reasons I'm imagining and have some sympathy for" are equally speculative positions

no wonder this conversion got heated and people got upset if it was about our individual (or collective) and subjective senses of morality all along

You're not wrong, but it's a little self-righteous to laugh and then be the big enforcer. Laugh, be embarrassed and apologize to your wife later.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Oh, do not mistake me for someone who thinks Will Smith is anything other than a petulant, abusive egomaniac

aside from the fact that some hollywood star got offended enough about a joke that he actually struck the person telling the joke this whole we may take his oscar as punishment is a joke

you voted for him before the slap. nothing changed with voting in between that. also if you do that then roman, nicholson, bale, mcconaughey, allen, nolte, and crowe should be stripped

Agree, but I don't think there's any real danger of that
