Yeah the venue is irrelevant.
Does this mean your view on stand up comedy as a whole is in need of an overhaul, then? Like, comedians shouldn't make any offensive jokes towards people any more? I feel like this is at least 50% of stand up comedy, just wondering where it goes from here.
I'm personally not a huge stand up fan. I think it's a toxic and broken "artform." I think a lot of it is super shitty. And yes I think it needs an overhaul. Which is why I mostly stay away from it.

Which is not to say that I haven't seen some great stand up. The culture around it is pretty gross (I think a lot of comedians would agree with that; though we may differ on some points of how/why). But like anything there are great stand up routines and good comedians. It's the overall culture there that turns me off.

Again, what if everyone in attendance agrees to it, even if it is "toxic"? Does that make it better if all are willing? Kind of like fighting sports; it's illegal to hit someone randomly in the street, but because all parties are in agreement it's OK.

So, apparently for French people watching the event live, a translator interpreted in real time:

"Jada, love ya, can't wait to watch your next film", leaving the title out

"that was a joke for her!"

then Will Smith slaps him in the face

"I don't want to hear one more word out of your mouth!" "Don't talk about my wife!"

I bet they were so confused

I would wager that the majority of people who find Jeff Foxworthy funny have at least one home mortgage.

I don't think you can call a medium "toxic and broken" and then turn around and say that there are some outliers who are great. That simply doesn't make a lot of sense, on a conceptual level.

You’re right. It’s time to move on from this silly incident.
The posters with the silliest takes have backtracked from their initial positions--now is not the time to relent.
