Re: Are you not going to watch the Oscars this year?
for me, the thing was a disability / sickness issue, a gender issue, and a race issue

No group is, but I have seen very little support for the slap, no matter the group.Ms Harmless wrote: they're not a monolith

I think if you look at a person’s predominant political leanings, this is a much more reliable stat than skin color or gender, If you want to predict or understand what their opinion on an issue will be

marginalised identity goes a long way towards informing someone's political leaningstree_ wrote:I think if you look at a person’s predominant political leanings, this is a much more reliable stat than skin color or gender, If you want to predict or understand what their opinion on an issue will be

not every marginalized person has the same opinions, and people can be/feel marginalized in countless different waysMs Harmless wrote:marginalised identity goes a long way towards informing someone's political leaningstree_ wrote:I think if you look at a person’s predominant political leanings, this is a much more reliable stat than skin color or gender, If you want to predict or understand what their opinion on an issue will be

Were you aware that The Rock has a non-verbal learning disability, where he has trouble reading people's faces and whatnot? So kinda makes sense how he leaned into the smack, didn't even see it coming. Makes it all the more tragic.

that's interesting, certainly is a factor to add to the big soup of factorstree_ wrote:Were you aware that The Rock has a non-verbal learning disability, where he has trouble reading people's faces and whatnot? One could rightfully argue Rock's at least as marginalized as J.P. Smith? He actually has a learning disability. She's losing some hair.

Re: Are you not going to watch the Oscars this year?
alopecia of the type she has is an autoimmune disease, a disability; it's not just "losing some hair"
one could argue that due to Chris' learning disability, he shouldn't be mocking women who are prone to it; he's more aware than that

Anyone has has baldness has alopecia. It is the medical term for "bald". They go bald because their immune system kills hair follicles. It's not a debilitating disease in of itself, though I can see how it may hurt someone's self esteem and lead to psychiatric issues.

Wait, are you arguing that a person with a learning disability should be better at learning stuff?

Will Smith has been disciplined by the Academy for a slap but Marilyn Manson and Louis C.K. both won Grammys

learning disability doesn't mean "bad at learning stuff", I have multiple; yes, people can do better even with a learning disabilitytree_ wrote:Wait, are you arguing that a person with a learning disability should be better at learning stuff?
like I've said multiple times, Chris is intelligent enough to make a documentary series about Black hair, as well as... well, a whole bunch of successes he's had
