Behind The Sun: The Official RHCP Thread.

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

What's the general consensus on Californication? I've never actually looked how people generally feel about the record.

Californication felt like sunset for the band. It's a near-perfect collection of songs with a consistent sound and they could have called it a day right then and there with that as their masterpiece. The music itself, particularly Frusciante's lines, actual sound like a sunset as well. All the notes are tinged in this faded red and orange glow in my mind. I like that album more than I like the band, if that makes sense.

Nice post.

It's funny because One Hot Minute was my "first" RHCP album. I obviously knew the singles from BSSM. But the album didn't really stick with me. And I knew nothing of them prior to that record. Well, other than their cover of Higher Ground.

But to me the Chili Peppers are One Hot Minute - Stadium Arcadium.

One Hot Minute, Californication and By the Way are a fucking killer run of great records.

Very similar relationship to this band as me, it seems. I just never got into By The Way when it came out. Maybe Californication was just the definitive statement from them that I needed at that time in my life.

Certainly if I had given By the Way a chance in 2002, I would have been just as excited for Stadium Arcadium as my RHCP obsessed roommate was in 2006.

I guess i always like them..i remember listening to a few songs from Mother Milk when it came out...yeah, they were always interesting to me but BSSM really got them into the mainstream, Under The Bridge and Give It Away were everywhere. And it felt dangerous to listen to them, like something that wasnt allowed for me as a kid.

One Hot Minute was also like that and in 1999 when Californication came out, i wasnt really interested....hell i got the cd because i change another cd someone gave as a gift and i saw it and was like yeah, that one whatever and i was hooked. The songs, the melodies, the jams, the lyrics...everything.

I saw the band twice during that tour and was blown away.

Oh, I see. Assumptions.

Y'all have no idea. But I'm okay with your assumptions, too.

Carry on.

yeah, could be could be....both have the Rick Rubin comparison too..

I would say the Peppers also have a really wild and incredible life.
