Anyway here is a list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_m ... on_Spotify

- Only legitimate rock bands on there in my opinion are The Killers (Mr. Brightside - 1381), Oasis (Wonderwall - 1364) and Queen (Bohemian Rhapsody -1764).

- How the fuck is Imagine Dragons so popular?

- Queen is insanely popular on Spotify. 4 songs over a billion. The other classic rock bands don't get anywhere close to them.

Even Flow
Alive
Jeremy
Black

The same 4 songs that would have been voted most popular on the band’s first day of relevance.

Yeah I don’t know the vast majority of those songs. It’s largely a matter of who uses Spotify as a primary source of music consumption combined with the time to do it. Many of us dinosaurs are still listening to CDs and vinyl records while you hipsters think of reasons why cassettes should be consumed ever again.

I don't know many of those either. We should do a "Let's Actually Listen to the Top 100 Songs on Spotify" thread. One song per day, in reverse order. Any interest? I probably couldn't commit to facilitating it but would enjoy participating -- seems like it has the potential to be equally edifying and hilarious, for many reasons.

We can skip "Bohemian Rhapsody"

I think the idea that we would start it and then watch people systematically jump ship in desperation is one of the ways the exercise could prove unintentionally hilarious, but...I understand

Here’s the thing: between 2014 and 2020, Spotify went from 60 million active listeners to 300 million active listeners. So of course the current top 100 is mostly going to be songs that were hits in the last 5 years…those are the songs that were grabbing peoples attention just as most of Spotify’s user base was arriving.

I certainly would enjoy watching the reactions of any RMers who are hearing Dance Monkey for the very first time, though.

I've heard of 40-50 of those songs and could probably hum the choruses. Not an overall surprising list considering the history of Spotify, like McParadigm stated.

I'm guessing this list pretty accurately reflects overall popularity with kids these days - and not just Spotify - over the last few years, though it's harder to tell now.

I don't think I've ever heard a Post Malone song.
