Well, he's an ex-football player, so I was assuming he was a celebrity on the same level as all the others interviewing PJ, in which case hopefully he was paid loads of money to do the job. He's not really just a fan. But I might be wrong.

Stephen Michael "Steve" Gleason (born March 19, 1977) is a former professional football player, a safety with the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League. Originally signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2000, he played for the Saints through the 2007 season. As a free agent in 2008, Gleason retired from the NFL after eight seasons. Gleason is especially well known for his blocked punt in a 2006 game that became a symbol of recovery in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. In 2011, he revealed that he was battling ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease.[1][2] Gleason announced the Saints 3rd round draft pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Well yeah, I know who he is. I just wondered why they called the friendship "unique". It's not; he's a famous guy they've paid to interview them, same as the others. The word "unique" is mostly being used here because he's disabled; I see it all the time.

If I am in the Anti-Leak Club (and I most assuredly am, thank you very much -- only MYM so far), then why oh why do I keep looking to see if this bitch has leaked?

I feel like a guy who has taken a vow of celibacy waiting to see when the new whorehouse opens.
I check even though I don't trust myself to stay outside (as Chris Rock notes, men are only as faithful as their options).

So every time I check, and there is no leak, I feel a little bit relieved. My options remain limited.
We are still all in this together, regardless of how we respond to the temptation when it arrives.
I know this camaraderie will not last much longer -- possibly a few hours, possibly a few days.

It's the same old shtick time and again: rather than just an interviewer, he's a guy afflicted with a disease, who happens to be a "huge fan" who is having his life's treat, meeting PJ. The fact that he's an ex-football player and thus a sports celebrity is a footnote in this case. It's infantilisation. Mike is clumsy with his words, so I don't expect any different from him, but I'm far too used to able-bodied people talking about how great it is to be around disabled people because we are so "inspiring". That's great, Mike, but hopefully he's cool to be around just because he is? I'm talking about portrayal, because the media will always give you a version of reality, not the whole thing. And this is a formulaic one I'm very used to. It's a charitable narrative but ultimately not a particularly respectful one.
