The Outfit - this was pretty good, and I really love Mark Rylance
The Greatest Showman - I enjoyed this a shit-ton more than I had expected to

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. It’s a bold film and I fully appreciate why some people may have gotten a lot out of it. I hold the lowest regard for all things royal family, and the only emotion I felt towards anyone in the film was when I felt joy for the kids who got to eat KFC like normal children.

the film holds the royal family in equally low regard. everyone is a miserable cunt and monarchy as an institution is utterly inhumane and everything is hopeless (the lead is a brat, but she at least seems to be human —but guess what? she dies, so what’s all the pageantry for anyway). luckily spencer isn’t ’t even interested in fidelity to biopic tropes, to representing a particularly familiar kind of tragedy, and it has no use for good taste. trash is a constitutive part of the film’s success.


my only complaint is this wasn’t about the musks

I didn't have the fortitude to dig in to this moronic take, but Malloy is 100% right. The idea that Spencer is "melodramatic" is a misreading of the highest order.
