I watched Inherent Vice last night. It was fantastic and not nearly as hard to follow as I expected (based on what I'd read about it)

I hope to give it a second watch soon.

I didn't. I really can't stand subtitles. It pulls my focus away from the movie.

I did make use of the "back 10 seconds button" a few times, but otherwise I didn't find the movie particularly hard to understand.

I may watch inherent vice again soon also. With all this Paul Thomas Anderson talk I watched boogie nights again last night and it was as wonderful as ever. God damn I love that movie

Boogie Nights is my favorite so far.

Next I think I'll rewatch There Will be blood. I saw it in the theater but don't remember much about it. The thing I most remember is Paul f Tompkins.

my wife and i started on Magnolia the other night after watching Licorice Pizza.

she's seen Magnolia before, but I haven't. we're watching it in chunks after the kids are in bed. we're a little over an hour in.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I don’t like that you’re breaking that one up. I think some weight gets lost.

In any event, I’d take a whole cinematic universe centered on the cop character

we'd need an afternoon to watch it straight through. those sorts of days are few and far between around here.

also, watching the cop try to deescalate situations gets my anxiety up.
