I almost posted about Bon Jovi in the "first songs you remember liking" thread, but I'm glad I came over here instead. Lots of low-hanging fruit pickers giving love a bad name in this thread -- as if seeing a million faces and rocking them ALL is something that just happens!

Before there were algorithms to tell you what to like, there was Bon Jovi.

I've said it before, but I genuinely, unironically, think Livin On A Prayer is a song it's impossible not to love. Every time that song comes on, I have a great time. It's like the whole square/rectangle thing. You don't have to listen to it to have a good time, but if you are listening to it, then you are having a good time. It's the perfect pop/rock song.

Fun fact: dude who co-wrote that also co-wrote Livin' La Vida Loca. So...

Also Blood on Blood from the New Jersey record was a big song for me. I ended up writing a screenplay based on that song when I was like 13.

Most dudes on my hockey team were classic shitty jocks. They all loved songs like livin on a prayer and Poison. I couldn’t not associate it with them.

I get why people like it. Objectively.

Why doesn’t anyone want to talk about bongiovis singing there ??

I hadn't listened, but he does sound really bad. Almost like he's drunk or on drugs -- I feel like I remember a video of Weiland during his last few years where he sounded kind of like that. Hopefully he's okay.

And many others! Assuming you mean Desmond Child. He was a real heavy hitter in the schlock-rock/power ballad arena.

Music that reminds me of my early childhood (like 5-8), that can really rekindle that feeling of what it was like to be that age and live during that time, is rare and precious to me. For me that's stuff like Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Van Halen -- music I remember my aunts and uncles watching on MTV and listening to on the radio. I'm glad to have music like that in my life.

The very same!

Dude wrote a ton of stuff. But I like the "Livin'" connection. Makes me happy.

The guy went from being a Jamaican singer writing the song Israelites to writing power ballads with Bon Jovi. What an amazing life he had.

Every time I listen to a Chilis album on Spotify, once it's done, autoplay decides I must be a dumb idiot who also listens to Everclear.

Unreal.
