Re: The Running Thread
I don't think I've ever taken them beyond 6-7 miles at a time, but they're always a comfortable ride. The upper is super breathable mesh and feels like a sock. I bet you could get a half marathon or beyond out of them at your BMI.verb_to_trust wrote:Can those Altras hold up for long distances?

Re: The Running Thread
What's interesting about the Adios and Boston is that the offset is only I believe 8mm, but the stack is out of control (especially in the Boston). So I know it isn't the heel drop alone that is causing my issue.

Re: The Running Thread
Nearly 250 miles on the year so far. Verb told me two years via PM ago I could easily get 500 by July. He was a year late, but gotta give him credit for believing in me. Need to scoot if I want to make 1000 for the year though. I'm about 30 miles behind pace. Slacking off the last couple of weeks didn't do me any favors.

I listened to Jon Spencer Blues Explosion during my run last night and that really clicked for me

One time I listened to Steve Reich and somehow made a 5k PR.

Re: The Running Thread
In what may be a fruitless attempt to lower my heart rate, I'm going to begin a schedule of various running routines. Tonight I did 4 very, very slow miles attempting to keep my heart rate as consistently low as I could without it being speed walking. I knew my watch was going to die and it crapped out around 1.85 miles, but when I looked at it three times it was either 156 or 157. Just based on how I felt I'd imagine it stayed around that the rest of the way. I'd never gone that far without walking, so there's that. It did feel nice, despite being so slow.
I have to try some form of speed intervals this week also

Re: The Running Thread
That's the stuff, len.
I do most of my runs like that now, and one speed day a week. Today was that speed day.
Try this workout:
10 minutes at an easy jog to warm up
6 sets of 30 second high intensity intervals w/ 2:00 "rest" in between each interval.
7 minute cooldown jog.
The 30 second intervals should be all out sprints, targeting 170-180 heart rate, or whatever your max is.
The 2:00 minute "rest" intervals can either be walking or steady jogging.
I did this workout today after a week of sloooow miles and it felt appropriately tough. Didn't kill me and felt like a good workout. After slower running, even the high heart rate stuff felt natural.
The HR and pace jags look cool on Strava, and that's all that really matters.

Re: The Running Thread
I need to start lower than that in speed intervals. I can’t handle it from a breathing standpoint, and my heart rate be over 190. I think I may start with 1 minute intervals at like 75%, then work my way up.
I kinda want to go today, but I feel like a day off will be best. And I will be better suited to do intervals tomorrow.
Go kill it, R-dawg

Re: The Running Thread
Got a magazine in the mail with the new Saucony line. Now, I will give them credit because Grayson Murphy is in it and she is hot, but on the cover of this thing was 5 lumbering women who clearly do not run. Interesting marketing strategy to say the least.

Will do.
Did some intervals this evening. Stomach cramp. I may try them again.

Re: The Running Thread
Chose a far too rocky trail for the run today, so the jags on the Strava record are all goosed up

Re: The Running Thread
4.64 miles this morning with the dog. Had to stop for about 30 seconds total at a couple intersections. 7:41/mile pace and 188ft elevation gain.
