The Real Estate Thread: Buying/Selling/Tips/News

Post by Chris_H_2 »

Post here for anything real-estate related, including Doug’s inevitable 49 trips back and forth up the coast to make an offer on a house only to have it pulled from the market, or Bammer bringing up the market conditions in the greater Seattle area for the 306th time as if they’re somehow unique.

One of my best friends and his wife are both Realtors. He called me a few days ago to let me know that she was previewing a home on the market for a client and the owner hadn’t secured their dog (chow chow / akita mix). The dog attacked her and very luckily another agent was there to drive her to the hospital. He texted me pictures which I only glanced at very briefly (I get queasy with this stuff) … an absolutely gnarly gash on her forearm and a big bump on her head (probably other bites and such that I didn’t even see). I didn’t look closely at the pictures, I can tell the injuries are severe.

Anyway he was calling to ask about which attorney I know who can represent her as far as her injuries (one of my other good friends from college is a baller attorney in this field).

Fuckin chow chows … we had one growing up (a mix). They really suck.

Same guy (who I grew up with here) was walking home from the bars about 15 years ago (in Santa Monica … he moved to LA after high school) and narrowly escaped being randomly stabbed to death by what was likely a gang initiation attack. I saw the hole in the t-shirt where the knife cut through.

This couple has now (both) cheated death.

Now I have my eye on some houses in Tampa, FL.

I’m all over the place.

We met with a financial adviser who was just kinda like “I think you’re good and this isn’t necessary. Don’t stress yourself out.”

I will never be able to afford a house. Congrats to those that have and may the joy of home ownership rain down on you and your family for generations!

I will be eternally jealous and live vicariously through each of you.

This post is absolutely sincere, btw.

Durden if I’m not mistaken you live in one of the most expensive housing markets that exists. There are other places in this country where housing is a fraction of the cost. Obviously you know that. I’m just saying it can be done. Location location location.

Yeah but I have no marketable skills or training in anything other than theatre. I can afford a house somewhere else if I keep my theatre job. But I can't afford a house working at the Gap somewhere else.

Right now we're doing some planning, getting ducks in rows, and figuring out what it would take to get a little vacation home nearby -- in Pennsylvania, for example.

We'll see how that goes.
