It's funny. When you have their faces in front of you, it's so damn easier not to pick apart everything. You could speculate, but it's far easier to just take their word for it. I don't care as much that they're holding stuff back because I can see it was their professional decision to do so. The overall impression is that they look good and happy. That's kind of hard to argue with. The trouble with a written article is that they're so often written terribly, and insensitively, that they'll have RM scrambling like vultures to get a piece of them. And that's not our fault. We want more info about everything if there's controversy. These articles often stir shit up without ever actually resolving anything for us. I just feel a bit more in touch with the band when I can watch them talking. It may be a construct, but meh... how would I know anyway?

No, it IS our fucking fault. We should be smart enough to know that it's a written article and everything can't be grasped from a tossed off quote from Jeff or Mike on how the album is going. Even if the writer sucks, it is the reader's fault for overeacting.

Oh come on, it's a little of both. There's a responsibility to read maturely, of course, but when journalists write terrible articles and people who aren't press-savvy say stuff which could be interpreted badly, I don't blame people for overreacting at all. It's all of these things, but PJ apologists frequently exaggerate how much it's OUR FAULT. By saying that it's not all our fault, I'm not even implicating PJ. Music journalism is terrible these days and usually you have a million ways something could be interpreted after a PJ article. That's just not very good writing, and I think it's got to share part of the blame. So you know, let's have some fucking perspective.

Nope. We should own up to it and quite shifting the blame on poor writing. Recognize it as poor writing, we should be critical enough to do that. And also recognize that we are not actually face to face with them and that the written quote could have been said in many many different ways. That is our responsibility. Then, knowing this, we won't overreact like fools. Come on, a little of both my ass. It is as clear as day for me.

Edit: Tuolumne, I'm not exempting the fans' responsibility to not be idiots in their speculation. I'm just saying that it's all of the above, and I understand the fan speculation given other factors. It's all of it, not just one thing or another thing.

How come we've had no thoughts from the latest listening party?

Meet point was the Croc, there was no sneaking into this event, but the Croc bar was always open to anyone. Your name had to already be on the list. At about 5:30 they walked us (about 40 of us) over to Studio X. Best described as awkward/awesome. Pizza/salad/cookies/soft drinks served. 40 chairs facing 7 empty chairs on a slightly raised stage. At about 6:15 they played the album over an audio system. At the end we all applauded...no band in sight. Then a game of musical chairs where the winners were sent to assigned seats in the first two rows, and guests were sent toe the back rows. We were handed cards with our questions printed on them. Band walks in at 7:15 and the first winner asks his question. All 16 winners ask their questions; some neat insights from the band. 8:15 and questions are done. Groups of 10 are brought up to take a photo in front of the band. We get to interact with them for a few seconds. I ask Eddie where they are playimg tonight, "Ummmm, uhhhh, we have a big day tomorrow, have to go to the dentist". We are all ushered out by 8:35, Eddie pulls away in his car. Cool to see them in that environment, but would have been better the see them play a song.

With any presented media (Press, Poetry, Art, Music, Video, ect.) there is an inherent responsibility and intention of the creator to communicate a message and of the viewer to receive it and process it. Well written articles narrow the scope of interpretation and speculation. Sometimes it is genuinely hard to decipher whether or not the author is communicating the message clearly. Saying both sides don't play a part is shortsighted and quite frankly silly.

10c posted yesterday that shipping emails would start going out today, but that the actual cd's wouldn't start going out until Monday at the earliest. I'm pretty sure they're shipping them geographically, too, so I'm guessing cd's won't start shipping to US customers until Tuesday or Wednesday.
