How dare you accuse me of setting foot in a Sbarro!washing machine wrote:By all means, you do you. I'm not judging you at Sbarro with your hat on. I think at this point it's a dead tradition. I'm anticipating a cultural impasse between you and I on the actual gesture though, so I'll grab my hat and be on my way.

Laughing at the idea of a nice restaurant loaning me a jacket for dining but not asking me to take off my Billabong hat.

I have really terrible hat hair. It would be extremely disrespectful for me to remove my hat. People would probably lose their appetites.JuanHamm wrote:Is the practice of removing your hat while dining unknown to Americans? Do they just not care? Is it just a Midwest thing?
Help me out here, folks. I thought this was common knowledge.

Re: Wearing a hat in a restaurant
yep. as a young airman, i walked into the chow hall of my first--and only--duty station, in civilian clothes, and forgot to take my hat off--i was wearing it backward too, i think. i was stopped immediately by a table of three chief master sergeants, one of which decided to make an example out of me in front of the whole place...just absolutely laying into me. while he was telling me what a shitbag i was, a kid wearing a long stocking cap walked right by, and no one said a thing.E.H. i miss the chow hall.
