There is a ramshackle sort of nervous energy especially in 70s punk drumming that I find very appealing, yeah. Some of it may be deliberate but some of it is also the fact that this is a 19 year old who first picked up the sticks a couple months before the studio session. Whatever the case I like the feeling it creates

absolutely, and I understand liking it completely; it's usually something I warm to in bands if I love them enough in other ways, rather than something I go out of my way to seek out

this is basically an evolution of Nirvana, and I like it

i know at the time there was a lot of comparisons between the bands, but i dont hear this. i'm sure there's an influence, though.

maybe its just my age, but i've always thought of punk rock location-new york punk, california, dc, etc. i think i've gravitated more toward west coast stuff, but its all great.

One thing I find interesting about my own relationship with punk rock is that the LPs in my vinyl collection are almost exclusively rock, folk, indie, etc. while almost all of my 7" collection is punk and weird noise things.

I do find it interesting! Records are expensive to make, so it's no surprise that scrappy punk bands leaned into the more affordable format. Viva la vinyl.

Yeah, pretty much this. It's also saying something about the digestibility of punk music within a more general music diet. A lot of these songs are short, effective shots to the mainline. Metabolized fast but sustainable in your system for long periods of time. Like race fuel in a marathon.

I like punk a lot. But I tend to lean more towards post-Hardcore rather than straight up Hardcore. A little while ago I noticed a lot of my favorite (but not all) punk consists of bands with just 1 or 2 stand out albums or only 1 or 2 albums in their whole discography......... Yank Crime (Drive Like Jehu), The Shape of Punk to Come (Refused), Personal Best (Team Dresch).

a Minutemen record averages something like 20 songs in 30 minutes!

That's an eternity if you're sitting with a vinyl actively listening! I'll save punk albums for a portable session like a run or beer cooler inventory at work.
