Is conscious subjective experience a result of a certain level of complexity, or is it inherent in all things to varying degrees?

I believe pure consciousness is life itself. When contained within a humanoid vessel, an illusion of "me" comes up. But a plant doesn't have to think like we do in order to be conscious. Plants and other animals are aware without all the weird neurotic bullshit we deal with. Trees, mushrooms, they communicate with one another but in a completely connected, unadulterated way that the best of us catch glimpses of from time to time. You don't have a life, you are life.

Why limit it to life? No reason to think it doesn't apply to all matter.

It's like gravity. Even an atom has some infinitesimal effect on gravity or spacetime. They could also have a crude mental aspect (not really a mind, but a mental stuff).

Yeah I’m able to accept that there are different spectrums of life and consciousness. I guess I’m just more interested in the kind of consciousness that we have Because I can actually experience it

I'm not sure I get the point of debating what the term consciousness applies to. Obviously there are levels. Where are we going with this? Why does it matter?

It might matter if someone tells you they can reproduce your consciousness or self in a computer.

the question is what implications does debating what is conscious and what is not have on whether you can reproduce consciousness on a computer. how does it play in?
