Artists you've discovered through another artist
Whether it be an opening band, a spotify playlist, who have you discovered thanks to another band/artist? I'll start:
I read an interview with Mike McCready where he said he and Ed were into a band called Sigur Ros. That was the first I had heard of them.
I once saw the group Liz Cooper and the Stampede as an opener for Houndmouth. Really got into them for a while.

Thom Yorke said his favorite song was a Bjork song, and then I gave her a shot and fell in love

Saw Grace Potter open an Allman Brothers show. Blew me away.
I picked up King’s X’s stuff after seeing them open for PJ back in ‘94.

No. I discovered Pearl Jam when I was 14? I didn’t know my ass from my elbow.E.H. Ruddock wrote:You never heard Neil young before pearl jam?

Yeah, I'd reckon many of us elder millennials discovered PJ before Neil Young.

I downloaded some My Morning Jacket songs when they opened for Pearl Jam, and one of them was on a split with Songs: Ohia, which led to Jason Molina becoming my favorite artist of all time. Fun topic!

Re: Artists you've discovered through another artist
In all fairness I discovered Pearl Jam more or less summer of ‘93. But at that point, it’s not as if Neil Young was some sort of mainstream juggernaut, especially not for a 14/15 year old just hearing all this stuff from the early 90s and then being introduced to classic rock through Led Zeppelin, the official musical scratch of the 15 year old itch. Neil Young I think is a bit down the line from that. Rockin in the Free World was probably my first taste, then Mirrorball and everything that came from there.washing machine wrote:Yeah, I'd reckon many of us elder millennials discovered PJ before Neil Young.

If you hadn't gone to that show, I might not have hung the Pyramid Electric Co. vinyl sleeve above my bench saw in the work shed. Weird thought.Simple Torture wrote:I downloaded some My Morning Jacket songs when they opened for Pearl Jam, and one of them was on a split with Songs: Ohia, which led to Jason Molina becoming my favorite artist of all time.
