Re: wilco
Apropos of nothing, but this morning I had an alternate universe thought wondering how differently Sky Blue Sky would have been received after Summerteeth instead of after AGiB. I'm talking immediate reaction. A lot of us love that album now, but i specifically remember it being kind of a dud and a grower when it was first released.
Maybe an impossible thought experiment because you'd then have to think about Nels on YHF and AGiB, but fun to wonder about all the same. I feel like Sky Blue Sky and Summerteeth are good back-to-back albums. That's pretty much all I'm saying. The relatively mild experimentation and mostly pop shine of Summerteeth would have been a decent primer for Sky Blue Sky compared to the the caustic and fuzzed out minimalism of AGiB.

i don't. i've definitely thought about it though.washing machine wrote:I actually came here to ask if anyone here subscribes to that today. I was looking at free samples yesterday and noticed him mentioning songs. I figured CH2 would be the only one here. Do you subscribe?dad wrote:looking forward to this one as well. i know if you're a paid subscriber to Tweedy's substack he's been posting songs from the album.
this morning, i've been looking through here to check out some early lives shows, etc., and get that alt-country fix. a good resource for sure.

Possibly. I’ve never come around on SBS though. And Summerteeth may be my second favorite.washing machine wrote:Apropos of nothing, but this morning I had an alternate universe thought wondering how differently Sky Blue Sky would have been received after Summerteeth instead of after AGiB. I don’t think so because I actually kinda almost like WTA. Outside of maybe four tracks SBS just feels very boring, very uninspired to me.dad wrote:is SBS too on the dad-rock nose?lennytheweedwhacker wrote:Possibly. I’ve never come around on SBS though. Re: wilco
Probably Bull Black Nova, but I really enjoy the middle stretch of the album. I think the last few tracks are lacking. Nothing on it would top Impossible Germany or Side With the Seeds, but WTA just works better to me as an album.dad wrote:oh...lennytheweedwhacker wrote:I don’t think so because I actually kinda almost like WTA. I’m not ruling out that hearing WTA after SBS sorta set a precedent so I knew more what to expect, but later listens seemed to confirm to me that I still find SBS underwhelming regardless of context.
