A friend recorded an entire album with Albini in a single day. It was released today: https://daddysboy.bandcamp.com/album/great-news

Instrumental is killer! But the vocals are quite horrible.

Are there any engineer/producers in the rap world who share a recording ethos with Albini?

Off the top of my head, I think about RZA or El-P because of how their productions tend to highlight rather than distract from or embellish the performances, but I also don't know many rap producers by their resumes to really narrow it down or draw distinctions.

Oh, also -- working deeper through the Albini "canon" that trag and others posted. That Owls record is grabbing me. Sort of like a more jangly indie version of Shellac with sparse instrumentation and the wild time signatures, but poppy voice and guitar lines.

I'm so glad people are listening to Silkworm.

Once they click, they click.

I wouldn't say I'm listening to Silkworm as much as I'm listening to Lifestyle right now. I should explore further, but for now it's just that album on repeat.

Yeah, keep cooking with the Touch & Go albums then work your way backwards.

Christ, I can't wait for someone to get hooked on Firewater!
