I kinda hated them during their first pass. I found them to be quite whiney and their fanbase of emo/scene kids were mostly insufferable.

I later discovered that 'Helena' is a stone cold banger. I'm sure there are others.

I know i've heard some of their songs, but I don't remember one dang thing about them. I don't mind trying one, but I also don't mind never trying one.

I'm no huge fan but they clearly had an ambition, aplomb, and intensity that their contemporaries didn't. And "Helena" has a hell of a hook.

That explains the acronym. I have heard of them but never heard a song of theirs - at least that I am aware of.

i don't search out music anymore and i can't tell you why..anyway, my wife and i were sitting at a dive bar in minneapolis last weekend and the bartender and us were talking about music he was playing...i thought it sounded a lot like early jackson brown and he told be it was a band called dawes...he played more of it and i liked it...

Well they did back Jackson live for a bit, great band where their first three albums really capture the Laurel Canyon vibe and I've really enjoyed everything they've done. Taylor Goldsmith has some tremendous lyrics, especially in the second album. Also, everything about this is fantastic from a Zevon and Letterman fan.
