The New Headphones Thread
back before GD was obliterated, a headphones thread existed.
and within the walls of that mighty thread, there were some solid recs. one of which were these...which Jorge recommended to me. Thank you, Jorge, my handsome muse.
this model is on clearance for $10 less, but all sales are final on the clearance items.
is this brand quality enough to trust that a clearance model is worth the risk?
also, because i've never spent a that kind of money on headphones, and i don't see anywhere on the site or in the specs, is it safe to assume the cord to these is 3.5mm?

Yes you're totally fine on the cord
I'm not familiar with the SR80Es but apparently they are very good. Here's a pretty thorough review from a good site: https://www.whathifi.com/us/grado/sr80e/review

If you’re wondering how the SR80es stack up next to the SR60es, they’re similar but the SR80es have slightly tighter bass and better-defined treble. Let your budget decide.

Is there room in this thread for budget buds? I use these for everything. They sound clear enough and are super affordable.

one of my BiL's is talking up: audio-technica ath-m50x, Sennheiser had 280 pros
he called the grado labs sr60x a third party sennheiser.

Re: The New Headphones Thread
Hey I love the Audio Technica M50xs, they are my go-to use-out-in-the-world headphones. I have both the regular version and the second edition of the Bluetooth model, which are both great. But I didn't recommend them because we had been talking about price points and those are all over $130 usually.dad wrote:i'm going to get cans for in the house, maybe travel too.Jorge wrote:Wait are you not getting the Grados anymore?!dad wrote:wife ordered these for me.

Also, they are EXTREMELY different from the Grados. The Grados cans are open-back and they have a "spacious" sound that gives a lot of room to the sound, like you're sitting at a show with the band in front of you (I believe it was my comment about listening to the new Big Thief album that spawned this whole conversation). The Audio Technicas aren't just closed back, they're especially bassy! Not in a bad, Beats kind of way, but the bass is certainly more prominent than in the average set of cans.
