I hardly ever use salt anymore. Just water and oil with towel. Every now and then I’ll scrape it with the scraper.tragabigzanda wrote:You clean a cast iron pan after every use with coarse salt and a scouring pad. Those plastic scraper things are helpful too. You NEVER use soap on a cast iron pan, not once in your whole damn life.
After it’s clean, you dry it, then oil it with cooking oil.

I would never get in a relationship with cast iron. So high maintenance.

Not in the oven. I just clean it then coat it with a thin layer of oil before putting the lid and cover on it until next use, as it stays outsidedad wrote:nah, you chimed in, and that was helpful. as far as maintenance, how often do clean it? season it?E.H. Does stainless steel get as hot as cast iron? Because you need a damn hot surface to get the best crust on a smashburger.

I boil oats and leave them overnight, but before I do the dry oats get toasted on either a pan greased with coconut oil or else a seasoned cast iron. The cast iron especially locks in some nice roasted flavor to play around with.bodysnatcher wrote:https://www.google.com/search?q=can+you+cook+oatmeal+on+cast+iron%3F&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari

Everything. Meat, fish, potatoes, eggs, chicken, cornbread…tragabigzanda wrote:What do you cook on it? his isn't a large plate, which i'm guessing yours is. he just coats his with vegetable oil and puts it in the oven.E.H. Ruddock wrote:I forgot to ask, how does he season in the oven?
