I appreciate the absolute void of argument you display by using Dev’s misuse of the word automatic to pretend to think his concern was machine guns, and not the modern assault weapon that was just used to murder children.

The number of privately owned fully automatic machine guns in the US plummeted in the decades after the law passed. Today, they can cost tens of thousands of dollars to acquire and most are in the hands of dedicated, safe hobbyists.

Not to defend Mac, this performance is embarrassing and he should have called it a while ago, but that is the same frustration many moderate/right people have when overly academic definitions of terms like "Socialism", "Fascism", and "Critical Race Theory" are used to dismiss criticisms of those ideas. The ridiculous argument that "your position is wrong because those are not automatic weapons" isn't meaningfully different from "your position is wrong because that's not real socialism".
