Very well could be. Before Attack of the Clones, his best-known role was probably Once Were Warriors (shout-out to the RM Film Club, you were too beautiful for this world), which was all about postcolonialism in New Zealand. I am sure the filmmakers were aware of his history.

So, question for the retcon crowd... Obviously, the whole Leia and OBW now have this experience so why doesn't she mention it in her holo-message to him in ANH??? bugs you. I get that.

But then does Leia's reaction to his name when Luke says Ben Kenobi in ANH also make you really happy? Doesn't this retcon make that moment even cooler? Because now she clearly knows him!

And if that isn't enhanced not for you, why?

The show wants us to think OBW is talking about Padme when he take Leia that she reminds him of another stubborn leader he's known in the past but I like to think that he's talking about Satine.
