Ok, I admit it, I didn't need to use the term hipster to make my point, but threw it in to stir the pot a bit. However, I still think that there are some here - on both the positive and negative side of the equation - that aren't expressing their genuine opinion on things, but rather just have to go against the grain.

I don't know why but when you reach somewhere around 5k posts it stops keeping track of what forum and what thread most of your posts are in, otherwise we would be able to see the real number real easily

Ok, I admit it, I didn't need to use the term hipster to make my point, but threw it in to stir the pot a bit. However, I still think that there are some here - on both the positive and negative side of the equation - that aren't expressing their genuine opinion on things, but rather just have to go against the grain.

It's going to be a difficult song to enjoy without getting flack for it, that's for sure.

We're in the pre-album hype phase. It happened with Avocado. It happened with Backspacer ("their best since Yield"). Lightning Bolt will be a typical mid-career album from a mid-career classic rock band who's members are approaching/in their fifties. It'll contain some solid rockers and some solid ballads. It'll debut at number 1 on the charts in its first week but sink like a stone afterwards. It'll get the usual 4/5, 7/10, 6.5 reviews from magazines who will claim the grunge "survivors" are "still going strong." There will be subsequent singles released from the album, but they won't make a dent in the charts or public consciousness, because anybody who was interested bought the album in its first week. The songs will be played fast and sloppy live, and the crowd will be kind of into it but not really.

Pearl Jam will continue to make these safe, solid, decent albums - just like Avocado and Backspacer - for the next decade or too until they split up. There will be a commemorative greatest hits, which will be frontloaded with their songs from the 90s, and only a smattering of stuff from Binaural onwards.

This might be the first Pearl Jam album I'm probably not going to buy the day it comes out since No Code. I'll probably just wait till it goes on sale in the next 12 months to pick up a copy of the LP for the sake of catalogue completeness.

I can't see this band splitting up ever. I can picture a gradually increasing gap between album releases and they'll potter about and tour the world every 5 - 10 years like the Stones, with the occasional new single slapped onto a new Greatest Hits compilation.
