No. It survived until we found out that ObiWan was present at their birth.

I think SW got lucky with the two retcons in ESB/ROTJ. You only had three films, and nothing was too fleshed out, so it worked.



Now, the universe gets expanded, and funny enough, it constricts all the characters/plots into a muddled mess. The continuity is messed up beyond repair.
