There is a clear distinction between being basically decent and respecting an individuals preferred pronouns and social enforcement of language corruption.

Does 2 x 2 = 5 or does 2 x 2 = 4?
:haha:

Tell me why that is wrong. Tell me how this doesn't lead to a Tower of Babel effect where innocent, well-meaning, and decent people can no longer understand each other. Tell me why those people won't resort to censoring their words and ultimately their thoughts for fear of crossing some high subjective, coded language taboo and hurting others. I am a Morlock so use small words.
Do Republicans ever stop fear mongering? Do they have any ideas that aren't reactionary?

Justice?
Equity?
Racism?

With these terms, aren't we all basically talking about different things now in the broader culture? And doesn't that greatly inhibit us from actually making progress on these/them?

Language evolves. It also changes - and is changing - in other, more nefarious ways. Yes, young people come up with code words to get around prohibitions all the time. It's also true that corporations try to latch on to new slang to sell products.

But that's not all or even most of what's happening here.
Put that in your manifesto thread and suck it down, Mickey!
Lots of vague gesturing to unpack here

I think terms like “birthing people” or “menstruating people” and such are are too much, kind of dumb. But why do people get so worked up? I’ve yet to ever see someone offended by the term “woman” in real life.

The argument is that using the term women in a debate about abortion excludes people with vaginas that don't identify as women.

Right, I get it. I just don’t think we’re at the point (or ever really will be) where the terms “men” and “women” (male/female) are in jeopardy or considered offensive to anyone but the most hardcore activist types.

Agreed. I have never heard anyone talk about any of this stuff outside of Twitter.

Maybe I should spend more time in Ann Arbor.
