I have a hard enough time with shuffling around the deck & patio furniture for the two nice months of weather we get. Fuck moving the whole house, furniture, clothes, Matt Cameron drums, all of it.

Not to mention all the paperwork - billing & shipping address on all your credit cards, ID, etc.

Our office is moving in the next year and while that should be at least a little bit exciting I am fkn dreading all the changes to our forms, website, envelopes, on and on and on.

Hate it.

If Jorge starts a commune in America, would you guys move to it?

I did it after college, but now it seems impossible. My kids are in high school and middle school, my parents (200 miles away) are in their 70s, and I’m starting my 20th year at the same school this fall. I wouldn’t say I feel trapped, but I do feel like moving a significant distance is out of the question at this juncture.
The flip side would be you’ve established roots. Any satisfaction there?

For sure. I wouldn’t be happier anywhere else because of the people I’d leave behind. I did Cali for 3 years, and I’m grateful for that experience. I wish I’d done a similar stint out east in a city like Philly. I’m fascinated by the proximity of so many major cities as well as the ocean.

It’s a post on a dying message board. It’s not really about anything. Just seemed like an interesting topic. Most of the remaining posters here are in their 40s and 50s and probably going to be where they are right now until they retire. I guess with a couple of middle-age people in my life making big changes, I was intrigued. I also just got back from vacation, which always makes me wonder about what might have been, and I’m stuck in the guest bedroom with Covid and have too much time on my hands.

I have absolutely nothing keeping me in my current place except an apartment lease and the fact that I’ve moved twice in 3 years.

It would be very difficult. We've made a life here with a whole network/community of friends. If a move happened, it would likely be to a city closer to family.

There is an eagle in me and a mockingbird . . . and the eagle flies among the Rocky Mountains of my dreams and fights among the Sierra crags of what I want . . . and the mockingbird warbles in the early forenoon before the dew is gone, warbles in the underbrush of my Chattanoogas of hope, gushes over the blue Ozark foothills of my wishes—And I got the eagle and the mockingbird from the wilderness.

O, I got a zoo, I got a menagerie, inside my ribs, under my bony head, under my red-valve heart—and I got something else: it is a man-child heart, a woman-child heart: it is a father and mother and lover: it came from God-Knows-Where: it is going to God-Knows-Where—For I am the keeper of the zoo: I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness.
