Just listened to the EV/Mike Watt/Dave Grohl version of this and I think it's my favorite live take of it.

love this song and especially when live they would do that 'pre-Habit improv'

this song whips ass.

i love the way Ed sings, "I'm so happy with my righteous self!"

one of my favorite live versions is Glasgow 2000. Matt's drumming after the "never you, never me..." is :bammer: :bammer: :bammer: :bammer: :bammer:

There are several 2000 "Habits" where Matt whoops the pony's ass.

I have Stockholm marked down as my favorite version for whatever reason.

don't get me wrong, i love Jack's drumming on Habit. I love all the improvs they did in '98 prior to habit, as well as when they were doing improv>habit>mfc (or mfc>habit).

i think Matt elevated that song on the 2000 tour...for me.

i've decided to listen to No Code today, and the studio version of this song still whips ass.

Man, he really digs in on that one. Brutalizes the shit out of that bass.

Stip's friend in that friend thread thinks this song is bad. I AGREE STIP'S FRIEND.

One of the worst Pearl Jam songs...it is a very annoying song, and one of the worst in their discography in my opinion.

Still love No Code though

he is right that using Habit as a verb sucks, and this period of Eddie's shrieking is...not great

But still, what an outro!

I would not categorize "Habit" as shrieking. That's a full-throated, guttural roar if anything. "Shrieking" is his voice in Avocado, particularly the "Comatose" chorus. Thin and reedy

Maybe I've been misinterpreting it but I thought they were doing a pun of sorts by singing "never thought you'd have it" (the habit in question)

I kinda love them using "habit" as a verb, it's one of those sprinkles of weird they were good at
