Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
PJ albums always take a while for me to formulate a final opinion but so far I'm pretty negative.
When Sleeping By Myself came on I thought it was generic Spotify streaming commercial jingle music. It's pretty hideous and has no reason being on a full PJ album. Swallowed Whole has no place here either. It's an Ed solo tune and nothing more.
I was surprised how half-baked the whole thing feels. Infallible, Pendulum and Yellow Moon all show promise but they don't seem finished to me (YM comes closest to sounding done).
LB has no character or coherence. It sounds exactly like an album done in two sessions 18 months apart because well...
I like Getaway and Sirens a lot and I don't hate MYM anymore. The rest is just blah. 5 or 6/10. Weakest PJ album.

Yeah, Swallowed Whole is pretty good. Could be a single actually.

Like SBM on this - never listened much to Uke Songs.
Yellow Moon sounds a little like a b-side from the period between Ten and Vs. I mean that in a nice way.
Also - neither of these is the Vine song. So what the hell was the Vine song? Scott Stapp? B-side? Stray Cats 2019?

While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

What's not to get? It sounds like something from Into the Wild not a Pearl Jam song.theplatypus wrote:Huh?darthvedder81 wrote: Swallowed Whole has no place here either. It's an Ed solo tune and nothing more.

Getaway

These are good songs (MYM at a stretch). Thanks PJ for enough to keep me happy. 5 from session 1 and 3 from session 2.

Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
Hmm.
Feels like the second half doesnt earn its rightful place on the record. I dont feel the need to come down emotionally by the time we get to near the end of the record...
SBM - Not sure what I heard.
Yellow Moon - Underwhelming on first listen
FD - Why? Why? Why? Fuck you BOB and Eddie for wasting a track on yourselves. If the band isn't playing on the song then its not PJ. The only way this song could have worked is if the emotional ride was tense enough up to that point for a cathartic release. Doesnt happen.
I fucking love everything up through pendelum though.
