Walter couldn’t stay forever in that cabin in the woods.

Jimmy couldn’t live Gene’s life forever (at least where this story seems to be going).

I wonder what that means for Jesse post El Camino. Jesse was one of the few people who started on the bad side of the spectrum, but slowly found his morality and code through to the end of breaking bad. I’d like to think he earned his second chance and is able to keep a low enough profile to see it through.

Especially since I combined three "identities" in one sentence to describe this moment in Jimmy's life. I obviously don't think of them as distinct personalities. I literally wrote Gene is acting like Jimmy and living like Saul. If that's not a description of a "messy soup" I don't know what is. Using the names is a shorthand
Well I am glad we agree

yeah Jesse came out better and he seemed to be at peace in El Camino. Jimmy doesnt seem to learn from past mistakes, thats why this last episode was so good.

I think he’s learned, but just doesn’t care at this point.

I also enjoyed the dreamlike quality of the Breaking Bad flashbacks, and how they tie into the choices Jimmy is making. It really felt like we were in his head as he relived these moments, rather than just a storytelling choice or, worse, fanservice

I definitely relate to Jimmy’s spiraling after that phone call; I have been leaning towards destructive tendencies since recently seeing my ex that actively worked to hurt me personally. The blank look on his face in the montage of sitting in the corner of the strip club to the going through the motions of paying the sex workers in his bed… that look is very similar to how I felt after gambling again; the guy is just looking to feel something different and can’t get the same joy out of it like a true addict who has been indulging too long.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

After listening to Schnauz on the Insider podcast, it may be that simple after all. It's more about Gene numbing himself in response to "something very bad" (Schnauz's words) that happened during that phone call. Pretty much exactly what you spelled out from your own experience, Mecca.
