I had absolutely no idea this was in the works.

Please just let this franchise rest in peace. There hasn't been a good Predator movie since 1987.

I kind of like the second one better, but hard to argue against the terminator.

The sequel is batshit nuts but also underrated.

The Predators sequel with Adrien Brody was promising but seems like they ended up going nowhere.

We definitely went over Predator 2 in the Cinematic Motion Picture thread.

I am looking forward to this one.

I can sit through/stomach the Danny Glover sequel, but stand by my original statement. The rest are absolute garbage beyond that.

Danny Glover earned their respect. He should have yours, too.

The Shane Black Predator movie is legitimately one of the worst things I have ever watched

Hearing lots of good things about this from those whose opinions I trust. Looking forward to it.

This was fine. Visually, it is often gorgeous to look at. It just isn’t great at any genre. It isn’t particularly scary/tense, the action is serviceable, not memorable, and the supernatural aspect is already well-established. You care more about a dog than any human character. It’s above average straight to dvd fare.

I liked it slightly more than you but that largely sums up my feelings.

Amber Midthunder is great.
Spoiler: show
I did like the Predator 2 link.

Ultimately, I’m not sure what I want from the franchise going forward. The nerd in me wants some serialized storytelling with an overall arc that explores the predators more but one-offs like this will likely be more effective unless someone with some real vision takes over.

Nitpicks:
*I know having them actually speak in Comanche is a hard sell but they could’ve at least gone with something other than American accents.

*The French guys were too over the top.

*That flower taking effect as soon it hits that French translator’s lips.

*They should’ve ditched the predator invisibility. Not needed and could’ve been explained as a sign their tech hadn’t advanced there yet.

*I prefer the OG face design but it was passable. I think we saw one of these guys in the Adrien Brody movie as one of the “bad” predators. The hands and feet looked a little rubbery, though. More like a frog.

*Eliminate the second shot of the ship dropping off the predator, the title card, and the dateline. It starts off really well, tone-wise, and all of that detracted from it. Commit to the atmosphere and keep going. There’s an alternate universe where this movie is released with no real details like Cloverfield and you just come to the realization on your own that it’s a Predator movie. Alas.

*I appreciate the “primitive” version of the theme but I really missed hearing the original arrangement. It’s iconic.

Admittedly this is exactly what I'm expecting out of this one; have a feeling a majority of these rave critic reviews are overblown.

I think the most natural next step is a return to crossovers. Have one of these things dropped off on Endor.
