i made this thread to occlude the west wing & its ersatz prestige bullshit and to demarcate the shows in the subject line as fundamentally different

i used to think mad men was a cut below these others. rewatched and really, it’s excellent. it’s writerly the way sopranos is.

the wire is the best, though deadwood easily my favorite.

I have the inverse formulation: Deadwood is the best, The Wire is easily my favorite.

Deadwood is great, but it's a solid fourth place on this list. Fourth place is good, though

1. Sopranos
2. The Wire

That's it, those are the ones I've seen

I never actually finished Mad Men. It was beautiful, well written and well put together but I didn't really connect with the characters in the same way I did with the other shows.

I probably owe it another shot.

Mad Men is far and away the best show I've ever seen. But I have not seen the Sopranos, I've only seen one episode of The Wire, and I've only seen four episodes of Deadwood.

It really didn't stick with me. I'm not sure why. One of these days I'll give it another go. I know too many that love it but to give it a fair shake.

I remember loving Deadwood, but I tried rewatching it and the first few episodes aren't great. It gets better, but I wouldn't put it on the top.

The pilot is a little off, but I think the show is strong from there. I love all the Wild Bill stuff.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
